Nicotinamide (Pyridine-3-carboxamide) — precursor to NAD+ and NADP+, two essential coenzymes in cellular metabolism and DNA repair.
Stimulates ceramide synthesis to strengthen the lipid barrier, reduces sebum excretion rate by up to 55%[5], and inhibits melanosome transfer to reduce pigmentation.
4–5% for sebum control and barrier repair. 10% for pore minimisation and texture improvement.

A family of waxy lipid molecules constituting approximately 50% of the skin barrier's lipid matrix[3], alongside cholesterol (25%) and free fatty acids (15%).
Fills the gaps between corneocytes in the stratum corneum, preventing TEWL and blocking irritant penetration. Think of it as the mortar between bricks — ceramides are the most critical lipid for barrier integrity.

A naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan capable of holding up to 1,000× its weight in water — the skin's primary hydration molecule and a key component of the dermis.
Multi-molecular weight HA penetrates at different depths. Apply to damp skin — HA draws water from its environment. Seal with an occlusive layer on very dry or compromised skin.
A beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) derived from willow bark. Oil-soluble — the key property that allows it to penetrate into the pore lining where water-soluble AHAs cannot reach.
Dissolves the intercellular cement holding dead cells inside pores, breaking apart sebum plugs. Also reduces inflammation via COX inhibition — making it uniquely effective for inflammatory acne.
A biosynthetic glycosylated hydroquinone — a stable, safe tyrosinase inhibitor with excellent tolerability. Significantly safer than hydroquinone with comparable mechanism. Particularly suited for melanin-rich Indian skin tones.
Competitively inhibits tyrosinase — the enzyme responsible for converting tyrosine into melanin — reducing pigmentation at the source without destroying melanocytes.
A potent water-soluble antioxidant and the most studied brightening ingredient in dermatology. L-Ascorbic Acid (L-AA) is the most bioactive form. Requires pH below 3.5 for maximum efficacy.
Neutralises free radicals from UV and pollution, inhibits melanin synthesis via tyrosinase inhibition, stimulates collagen production, and enhances SPF efficacy when layered underneath.
Apply in the morning before SPF. Its antioxidant protection is most valuable during UV exposure hours. Store in a dark, cool location — L-AA oxidises rapidly once exposed to air and light.
Short chains of amino acids that act as signalling molecules, communicating with cells to trigger specific biological responses such as collagen and elastin synthesis.
Signal peptides tell fibroblasts to upregulate collagen and elastin. Carrier peptides (e.g. GHK-Cu) deliver copper to promote wound healing. Neurotransmitter-inhibiting peptides reduce muscle contraction depth.
A fat-soluble antioxidant (tocopherol) — the primary lipid-phase antioxidant in human skin, naturally present in sebum. Particularly important in India's high-UV environment.
Neutralises lipid peroxidation caused by UV radiation. Works synergistically with Vitamin C to enhance photoprotection by up to 4×. Also soothes and replenishes dry, lipid-depleted skin.
A form of Vitamin A — the most extensively studied anti-ageing ingredient in dermatology with over 50 years of clinical evidence supporting its efficacy.
Binds to retinoic acid receptors in keratinocytes, accelerating cell turnover, stimulating collagen synthesis, and normalising desquamation. Expect 6–12 weeks before visible results.
UV degrades retinol rapidly. Use only at night. Always follow with broad-spectrum SPF the following morning without exception.
Water-soluble acids derived from natural sources. Glycolic (sugar cane, smallest molecule, most potent), Lactic (gentler, also humectant), Mandelic (largest molecule, ideal for sensitive and darker skin tones due to lower irritation risk).
Break down the bonds holding dead skin cells together at the skin surface (corneodesmosomes), accelerating desquamation. Result: smoother texture, brighter tone, improved product absorption, and stimulated collagen production with regular use.
Mandelic acid is preferred for deeper Indian skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) as its larger molecular size means slower penetration and significantly lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) versus glycolic acid.

Yes. Dehydrated oily skin produces more sebum to compensate for the lack of water. A lightweight water-based moisturiser helps regulate oil production over time by keeping the barrier properly hydrated.
Yes — they are compatible but best used separately. Apply Vitamin C in the morning (antioxidant protection is most valuable then) and niacinamide in the evening. This maximises the efficacy of both.
Hydration from hyaluronic acid is visible immediately. Niacinamide shows visible results in 4–8 weeks. Retinoids require 6–12 weeks. Consistent daily use without breaks is essential for all actives.
Apply from thinnest to thickest: cleanser → serum → moisturiser → SPF (morning only). At night: double cleanse → treatment serum → repair serum → rich moisturiser.
